Marcos Zimmermann nació en Buenos Aires, Argentina, en 1950. Cursó estudios de cine en el Instituto Nacional de Cinematografía de esa ciudad e inició su actividad profesional como fotógrafo en películas de largometraje. Vivió varios años en Roma, en donde trabajó como fotógrafo free-lance y realizó diversas exposiciones en Europa entre las que se cuenta una, junto a Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Frank y Joseph Koudelka, curada por Robert Delpire en la legendaria galería Delpire-Nouvelle Observateur. Desde 1989 trabaja en la realización de libros fotográficos que inquieren acerca de la identidad de su país. Entre ellos se cuentan: “Patagonia, un lugar en el viento”; “Río de la Plata, río de los sueños”; “Norte Argentino, la tierra y la sangre”; “Argentina, naturaleza para el futuro” y otros. Estas obras han convertido a Marcos Zimmermann en uno de los referentes más importantes de la fotografía argentina actual.Sus fotografías forman parte de la Colección Manuel Álvarez Bravo para la Fundación Televisa de México, de la colección preparada por John Szarkowski para el Paine Webber Group of New York, de las colecciones de arte del Houston Museum of Fine Arts y del Bank of America, de la Bibliothèque Nationale de Paris y de numerosas colecciones privadas. Ha recibido el Premio al Mejor Libro de Arte Argentino, el Premio Pirámide de Oro y el Premio Leonardo. En 1999 su obra pasó a formar parte del patrimonio del Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de la Argentina y del Museo de Arte Moderno de la ciudad de Buenos Aires. Actualmente trabaja en tres nuevos libros y ha sido invitado por el maestro japonés Eikoh Hosoe a realizar una muestra en la Shadai Gallery de Tokio. Al mismo tiempo la Folio Gallery de Alberta, Canadá, está realizando un libro monográfico sobre su obra.
Marcos Zimmermann was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1950. He did Film Studies at the Instituto Nacional de Cinematografía in Buenos Aires and started his professional career as a photographer of feature films.For several years he lived in Rome, where he worked as a freelance photographer, holding several exhibitions in Europe, including one in the legendary Delpire-Nouvelle Observateur Gallery of Robert Delpire, together with Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Frank and Joseph Koudelka.Since 1989 he has worked on the publication of books of photographs which inquire into the identity of his country. These include: "Patagonia, A Place in the Wind"; "Río de la Plata, River of Dreams"; "Northern Argentina, Land and Kin"; "Argentina, Nature for the Future", among others. These books have made Marcos Zimmermann one of the most important figures in Argentine photography at the moment.Photographs of his are included in the Manuel Álvarez Bravo Collection for the Televisa Foundation in Mexico, in the collection directed by John Szarkowski for the Paine Webber Group of New York, in the art collection of the Huston Museum of Arts, in the Bank of America art collection of New York, in the Cabinet des Estamps et de la Photographie of the Bibliotheque Nationale in Paris, in the Fundación Antorchas of Buenos Aires as well as in many private collections. He has been awarded a prize for the Best Argentine Art Book, as well as the Pirámide de Oro and Leonardo prizes. In 1999 his work was included in the patrimony of the Argentine National Museum of Fine Arts and the Modern Art Museum of the city of Buenos Aires.He is currently working on three new books and has been invited to put on an exhibition in the Shaday Gallery of Tokyo by the Japanese master Eikoh Hosoe. The Folio Gallery of Alberta, Canada, is currently preparing a monographic volume on his work.
